📌 Introduction
The Government of India has launched an ambitious initiative called One Nation One Subscription (ONOS) to enable seamless access to global scholarly resources for all Indian students, faculty members, and researchers. This initiative aligns with the National Education Policy 2020 and supports the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat@2047.
🎯 Objective
ONOS aims to acquire national-level licenses for access to international journals and databases, eliminating the need for multiple institutional subscriptions. Over 1.8 crore researchers, students, and faculty across India will benefit from this program.
📰 Key Highlights of ONOS
- Launched following PM's call for “Jai Anusandhan” on 15 August 2022
- Aligned with NEP 2020 for promoting R&D
- Phase-I covers years 2025, 2026, and 2027
- Managed by INFLIBNET Centre, Gandhinagar under UGC
- Includes content from 30 major international publishers
- Access portal: https://www.onos.gov.in
🏛️ Who Can Access?
- All Central and State Government HEIs
- Central Government R&D institutions
- Students, faculty, and researchers across disciplines
🔍 Background
Before ONOS, access to academic journals was fragmented across various consortia like E-Shodh Sindhu, NKRC, DERCON, CERA, and others. ONOS replaces the need for individual subscriptions and integrates national access into one platform.
📚 Benefits
- Equitable access across Tier 1–3 cities
- Centralized cost-efficient subscription model
- Promotes interdisciplinary research
- Boosts India's role in the global research ecosystem
📡 Technical Coordination
The INFLIBNET Centre will handle user registration, authentication, and usage analytics. Access is provided through IP-based and registered access on the ONOS portal.
