History & Milestones

  • Idea mooted during the UNESCO Regional Seminar at the University of Delhi (October 1960).
  • Further discussed at national seminars (BHU, 1963; SNDT Women’s University, 1965).
  • Formally founded on 19 December 1969 to strengthen LIS education and scholarship in India.
  • Regular national conferences (e.g., XXXVIII – 2022; XXXIX – 2023) focusing on NEP-2020, ICT, and curriculum reforms.
